Cave diving in Norway, Plura

We obtained our full cave diving certificate in 2024 and cave diving in Norway was high on our list. The place in Norway where you can cave dive is called Plura and it is beautiful!
We had a long period off in the summer of ‘24 and decided to take a road trip to northern Norway to dive in as many places in Norway as we could.
On the way back, we went by Plura - a place we ended up staying longer than planned, simply because we loved it. Not only is the diving impressive, but also the surroundings. It is beautifully peaceful, with amazing nature both above and below the water. You can fish, hike and we even saw a moose!
It is also a nice place for non-divers to spend some time.

Plura at a glance

Where is Plura located?
Plura is in Norway, close to the town of Mo i Rana, just below the Arctic Circle. It is a remote place, very few people live there. I enjoyed it for that very reason - very quiet!

How deep is the cave?
The cave has different depths, with the entrance sitting at around 10 metres. We dived different ‘routes’ between 19 and 30 metres maximum depth.
Besides the big main passage, there are several side passages and loops that can be done.

How is the visibility?
The visibility in Plura is crystal clear, often more than 30 metres, which only makes this place more special. We were there in summer and they told us we did not have the clearest water. For them, it was murky, but we found it very clear. We were just amazed that it can therefore be even clearer!

What is the water temperature?
The water is cold, averaging around 4°C, so a dry suit with the right undergarments is essential.

What does it cost to dive at Plura?
Costs depend on the length of your stay, your type of accommodation and the number of dives. For an up-to-date overview, it is best to contact the dive centre. Either way, it is good to contact them in advance to discuss what you want and what is possible.

Can you fill tanks there?
Yes, the dive centre offers extensive facilities for technical diving, including filling dive tanks with air, nitrox, and trimix.

The dive centre, Plura Valley

The dive centre in Plura is a paradise for technical divers. Besides the facilities for dive tanks and equipment drying, they also have a well-equipped shop where you can buy or rent diving equipment. The lounge is a cosy place to warm up, share experiences and relax between dives. Everyone is incredibly welcoming and know exactly what technical divers need.

The entry point can be reached by car, so you can build up your diving gear close to the water. The entry is made easy with a set of stairs and a large stone, so you can set up all your equipment with ease.

Accessibility

Plura can be reached by car or motorhome, the nearest place is Mo I Rana, half an hour away.
You can also fly, of course, and if you book a package with Plura Valley, they can also arrange a transfer for you.

Where to stay

It is best to stay right at the dive centre, which is ideal as the nearest village is about a 30-minute drive away. The accommodations have everything you need for a diving trip and a relaxing stay.

* Intro into Cave
* Full Cave
* DPV cursussen
* IJduiken
* Rebreather en cross overs
